To you or your company, is WordPress a valuable platform? If yes, how and why would you think that?
Yes, I am from Automattic, the company that runs WordPress.com. WordPress.com is a for-profit hosting company.
We use WordPress to run the entire hosting platform.
Being a distributed company, communication is very important and P2, one of the communication tools we use is built on WordPress.
When did you start using WordPress? Why did you decide to stick with WordPress? How did you get started?
I started using WordPress in 2002 when I became a freelance Oracle consultant and wanted to build a website. In 2006, when I volunteered to be the church website administrator, I migrated it to from a proprietary platform to the open-source WordPress platform.
I have kept using WordPress since then because it has a very active and committed developer community. Over the years while other blogging platforms have disappeared, WordPress continues to grow and evolve. Today, WordPress powers up 34% of the websites on the internet!
How do you usually get involved in the community?
I like to share perspectives and things that I have learnt.
Last year, I spoke at WordCamp Kuala Lumpur on Remote Working, something that everybody at Automattic does on a daily basis. Although I have been remote working for many years before that, remote working at Automattic taught me a few things and I shared that in the talk.
In the past year, I learnt and have grown to love WooCommerce Subscription and I am sharing what I have learnt.
