Yuli

WordCamp Taipei 2019 will be held on December 28th this year. Many have joined to organize the event; some are newcomers to WordCamp, and some are last year’s volunteers. Through online and offline discussion, we have come up with new ideas to make WordCamp Taipei 2019 even bigger and better. In the next few months, we plan to look for more volunteers to help out with the event. We sincerely invite you to jump on board and join us.
See more experience sharing from last year’s volunteers!
Yuli – speakers team & website team volunteer
Although I signed up as a volunteer for WordCamp Taipei 2018, I didn’t participate in the event planning phase due to pregnancy. I started to help for three months before the event day. However, I didn’t know what I could do in the team at first because every task has been assigned to the volunteer. I hoped I could catch up on the schedule, so I asked partners and checked out the records to see if I could help. If there was anything I could do better or others missed out, I would actively ask the lead organizer if I could optimize it.
I really grew a lot thanks to WordCamp Taipei. I was on pins and needles at that time due to family matters. Fortunately, I was able to let off some steam because I was doing what I was enjoyed. 2018 was the year that I met most of the strangers ever since my birth. And it’s also the year I made a lot of new friends. Before that I isolated myself from the outside world and did a case job at home. Now I jumped out of my comfort zone and went out to join activities. It was no exaggeration to say that WordCamp Taipei did change my whole life!
Edwin Lin – photography volunteer
I became a volunteer for WordCamp Taipei 2018 because I saw the recruitment for the photographer in the online group. I would like to contribute to the WordPress community since I gained a lot from there. Therefore, I pushed off my case job and became a photography volunteer. I scouted the location in advance and found that if there was an assistant to help out with the lighting would be great. However, due to staff allocation, I could only take in charge of the photography alone.
Although volunteers are divided into groups to handle one of the venue areas, I still felt strenuous to complete the photography assignment because it’s a large-scale event like a wedding ceremony. Multiple sessions were running simultaneously. If I was interested in one of the sessions, I would stay longer to hear what the speaker said. However, that would make me act in a hurry because I needed to move the lighting equipment in advance.
I had a complicated feeling when the event ended. I would like to attend the sessions but at the same time completed the photography assignment. I heard that there were sponsors asking for event photos afterward. I had those photos but there was a knot in my heart. I suggested that the tasks that were assigned to the volunteers could be more clear and definite.
Jacky Chiu – venue team & registration volunteer
When my first time joining the WordPress meetup, I have found out that it’s not easy to organize the event. When I heard that the first-ever WordCamp in Taiwan were recruiting the volunteer, I sign it up without hesitation and ask the lead organizer what I could help. I became the venue team and registration volunteer, in charge of the venue preparation for speakers.
On the event day, there were attendees at home or abroad. Each speaker put a lot of effort to share his or her experience. The event ended with success. During the event planning stage, I have witnessed the sincere and selfless contribution from all the volunteers. I was deeply moved that first-ever WordCamp in Taiwan was successfully held.
Welcome to join WordCamp Taipei 2019! You could not only learn professional knowledge but also make friends with like-minded people. If you are interested in being a volunteer, you are welcome to join us. What I can guarantee you is that you must gain lots of experience.
