How and why did you first start using WordPress?
I think I might started to use WordPress around 2005. By that time I was blogging using MovableType, but I wanted to have more control over the publishing process, so I installed WordPress on my server, to give it a try. And I never looked back!
Why do you think WordPress is such a valuable platform?
Because it gives everybody a voice. It is very easy to either install WordPress in a self-hosted site, or to start a blog in wordpress.com. Everyone can do it, and therefore anyone can use it to publish whatever they want to publish. Also, the code is open source (including the mobile apps) and development is done in the open. Anyone can contribute to make WordPress better.
What are a few takeaways that attendees will get from your talk?
I hope I’d be able to communicate that the web, and mobile devices, should just work for everyone, and that we are trying to make the WordPress mobile apps just do that: work for everyone. As extra credit, attendees will be able to take a peek at how the WordPress mobile apps are developed.

Accessibility of the WordPress Mobile Apps
Mobile devices provide an extraordinary opportunity to deliver a superior mobile experience to every user. But still, we, the Mobile Team at Automattic, faced some interesting challenges when we tried to make the WordPress Mobile Apps more accessible. This talk, by one of the developers involved in overcoming some of those challenges, will review the accessibility tools both iOS and Android provide, and will contain first hand information on the way we develop and test the WordPress Mobile Apps, always making accessibility one of our highest priorities, to make sure that we provide the experience that our users expect.
